foxfire_j Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Here are some more listings, for resources in Southern IL (Or at the least the ones I know of. Up until 6 months ago, I lived near Carbondale and I had lived there since I was 5, so I am familiar with the area). Rape Crisis/Domestic Violence The Women's Center (Main) 24 Hour Toll-Free Hotline: 1-800-334-2094 (for crisis and information and referrals) Business number: (618) 549-4807 (Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30p.m.) Business Address: The Women's Center, Inc., 610 S. Box 1645Marion, IL 62959 (618) 993-0803 (I think there is also supposed to be a new office in Herrin-I think...) I just have to say, that the Women's Center is amazing. After my assault, I sought counseling there, and they were so supportive and helpful. Later, I became a volunteer, and was amazed by the activist community surrounding the center. The women (and a few men) who work/volunteer there are incredible. Call For Help (previously listed) They have a satellite office in Mt. Labyrinth Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 Workshops for Survivors and Secondaries I found this place in Evanston (just north of Chicago) that has fairly affordable workshops for survivors of sexual abuse and trauma. Although they are called women care counseling, they have workshops and groups for male survivors too. They provide workshops for secondaries and significant others. For anyone who lives in the area, they also have groups and counseling. Here's the link http://www.womencarecounseling.com/ http://www.womencarecounseling.com/community.html Here's a sample of their workshops: Healing Trauma: Skill-Building WorkshopsSexuality Interrupted: Healing the Wounds of Abuse Tools for Moving from Surviving to Thriving Sharing the Journey: A Workshop for Partners of Survivors Out of Bounds: Clarifying and Maintaining Boundaries From Helplessness to Helpfulness: Parents' Role in Helping Children Recover from Trauma
UhOhItsJes Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Quetzal Center 4740 North Clark Chicago, IL, 60640 United States http://www.c4chicago.org/node/53 I went there for individual counseling years ago for a brief amount of time and they seemed to be pretty decent. The counselor I had was definetly familiar with survivors responses and needs compared to general therapists I have had over the years. They offer individual and group counseling in addition to medical and legal advocacy. I never utilized the group counseling and the medical and legal advocacy so I don't know much about it but the individual seemed to be rather decent. Although they will assist you during crisis management for counseling if you do SI or have other similiar self-destructive behaviors, they are more recovery oriented so you must be somewhat stable (SI free etc..) when working on long term recovery issues. If not, they will recommend you to another facility that deals with those issues and you can augment their services with mental health treatment elsewhere. Again, this is what I gathered personally from years ago. It never hurts to check in and see what services are available and if you qualify.
penguinPS Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I went to another Crisis center called Northwest CASA, it's in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. It's a great center! http://www.nwcasa.org/
